The Redeemer

“Do you love me? Feed my sheep.”

After the teacher had risen, he appeared again to his students at the sea. His students had gone back to the lives they lived as fishermen. They were still in fear of the religious leaders and many of them carried the shame of abandoning their teacher and denying that they knew him. They fished all night and had caught nothing. At dawn, the teacher stood on the shore, but was not recognized by them. He called out, "Children, do you have any fish?" They answered, "No." The teacher told them, "Cast your net on the right side of the boat." When they did, the net was filled with 153 large fish. One of his students said, "It is the teacher!" Then one of the students jumped into the water and swam to shore. When they arrived, the teacher had a fire with bread and fish already prepared. He invited them to eat with him. This was the third time the teacher had appeared to his students after rising from the dead. After their meal, the teacher spoke with one of the students that had denied knowing him. Three times he asked, "Do you love me?" Each time he answered, "Yes, you know I love you." The teacher then told him to feed his lambs, care for his sheep, and feed his sheep. Three was the number of times this student had denied knowing the teacher. The teacher told the student that one day he would give his life spreading the word of what he had been taught. He comforted the student by reaffirming his promise to always be with him.

Thoughts to Consider

The teacher forgives us when we stray.
