The teacher continued to speak to his students during their last meal together. He knew they were confused and filled with fear, so he warned them about what was about to happen. He told them that the religious leaders would expel them from their congregations and even believe they were in the service of God by killing them. The teacher said this would happen because the religious leaders did not truly know God. Then he gave his students a surprising truth: "It is better for you that I go away. If I do not go, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you." The Helper he promised was the Holy Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit would come to do many things, He would show the world its sin, teach people about true righteousness, and remind everyone that evil would not win in the end. For his students, the Spirit would guide them into all truth, reminding them of the teacher's words and even helping them understand what was still to come. Jesus also taught them about prayer. Now they could go directly to the Father in His name. They didn't need parables or riddles anymore, and they no longer needed a priest. Finally, he promised his peace and victory. The students would face sadness, like a mother in labor, but joy would follow. Though the world would bring trouble, he told them to, "Take heart! I have overcome the world."

Thoughts to Consider
These students were about to lose their teacher, but they would never lose his Spirit. It would live inside of them forever.
