Soon after this man began his work, he was invited to a wedding. However, the guests ran into a problem, the wine ran out. This would have been a problem in this culture as the wine was integral in the celebration. The man's mother, who was also attending, believed that he could help. Though the man had never expressed the ability to intervene in such a matter, she trusted in him. There at the wedding were six large jars, these were used in their people's purification rituals. Then something incredible happened—the water that filled the jars had been turned into wine; a very special and costly wine. It was a sign. A sign that this man had come to bring something new; something that was not meant to cleanse hands, but purify souls. Later, this man would enter the temple of the city. There he would see a place that was meant for worship being used as a place of commerce—a swap meet. Immediately, the man's joy was turned to anger as he began to turn over tables and cash registers, driving the merchants out of the space. He told them that they were turning a place of worship into a market. He said his father told him to do this. The people were confused. No one had ever told them this before. He said that this temple was meant for something bigger, something holy. He was speaking about himself—about a spiritual mission that God, himself sent him to accomplish.

Great Purifier
“This was the first sign he performed. And the people believed in him.”
Thoughts to Consider
Could this man really have come to clean hearts and lives? Is he the one who would bring real change—not just outside, but deep inside?
