The Resurrection

“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even though they die.”

A message was sent to the healer, saying, "Your friend is sick." But he told his students that the sickness would not end in death. He said that it was God's glory and the healer would be glorified because of it. When he told his students that they would go to where the sick man was, they were worried because the religious leader had just tried to kill him. The healer explained that he must go so that God's power could be seen. He told them that he was glad he was not there to heal him, so that many would believe after what he was about to do. When the healer arrived at the dead man's tomb, the man had already been dead for four days. One of the man's sisters ran out to meet the healer and said, "If you had been here, my brother would not have died." The healer told her, "Your brother will live again… I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even though they die." When the other sister also came out, weeping. Seeing her pain, the healer was moved deeply and he also wept. Then the healer went up to the tomb and told them to roll away the stone. He prayed to his Father, then called out with a loud voice for the man to come out. And he did—still wrapped in his grave clothes. After seeing this, many believed. But from that moment on, the religious leaders planned to kill him and the man that had been raised from the dead.

Thoughts to Consider

This healer who raises people from the dead still calls people to leave behind their "grave clothes" of sin and death, and to follow him into new life.
