Light of the World

“I am the light of the world.”

In the great city, the teacher saw a man who had been blind his entire life. His students asked, "Who's fault is it that this man was born blind, his parents or his own?" He answered, "Neither. This happened so that the power of God might be shown in him. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world." Then the teacher spit on the ground to make mud, and spread it on the man's eyes. "Go," he said, "wash at the pool in the City of David." The man obeyed, and for the first time in his life, he could see. People that knew him were amazed. Some believed, but others still doubted that this could be the same man. When the religious leaders heard of this, they focused on the fact that this all happened on their Sabbath day. They questioned the man, but he simply said, "One thing I know, I was blind, and now I see." They called his parents in to verify that he had been born blind. They confirmed that he was born blind, but would not say anything else because they feared the religious leaders. So, they again, brought the man before them in order to condemn the healer. But instead, he challenged them, saying, "If this man were not from God, he could do nothing." For saying this, they threw the man out and would not associate with him. Later, the teacher found him and asked, "Do you believe in the son of man?" When the man asked who that was, he replied, "You have seen him; he is speaking to you now." The man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.

Thoughts to Consider

This healer restores physical sight as well as spiritual sight. Those willing to come with their needs can receive this light, but those who claim to see remain blind.
